Shirley Hurt is the Toronto-based project of Sophia Ruby Katz—a voice that critics have placed alongside Vashti Bunyan, Kate Bush, and Joni Mitchell.

Her self-titled debut (Telephone Explosion / Melodic Records, 2022) drew acclaim from NPR, Pitchfork, MOJO, Gorilla vs. Bear, and Dazed, earning her a spot at SXSW 2023 as a hand-selected artist for the Gorilla vs. Bear x Luminelle showcase.

Traversing experimental indie folk, art pop, and shadowed country, Hurt creates music that feels as though it has always existed. It's timeless, skeletal, and stunningly emotive. Her second album is forthcoming.
